An eclectic mix of false teachers for you this week, some are Word of Faith/Prosperity & New Apostolic Reformation, some are part of the “Progressive Movement,” some are fundamental extremists, some are from Pseudo-Christian religions, and some are very subtle heretics; but, all are false teachers, wolves in sheep's clothing, teaching a different gospel and a different Jesus. They are, from left to right:

When you point out false teachers like Matthew Vines, Nadia Boltz-Weber, and Brandan Robertson...Agreed!
Charles Stanley, Tony Evans...Sorry, I don't agree, there maty be secondary issues I disagree on, but as far as the essentials they are right down the middle.

After studying the teachings of both men, I can only conclude that you have not, and are, perhaps, only familiar with some sermons you may have heard by these men.
Regarding Charles Stanley, I realize he is a beloved and well respected Southern Baptist pastor, having been in the position of lead pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta for many, many years. I will also point out here that while there have been scandals in Stanley’s past, I am not concerned about them. I am only concerned about his doctrinal beliefs, especially as they pertain to the essentials, as you say.

One of those essentials is the gospel. In Galatians 1:6-10 we read that God, through the Apostle Paul, takes a strong stand against those who offer a gospel other than the biblical gospel. Twice in this passage Scripture states that those who do are to be accursed. This is a command, not a suggestion, and to refuse to anathematize them is to be in sin, in open rebellion against God.

In his book, “Eternal Security – Can You Be Sure?” Stanley teaches that as long as a person makes a profession of faith at some point in time, that person can later “walk away from the faith” and
“for all practical purposes become an unbeliever,” and “lose or abandon their faith,” that person’s “salvation is not in jeopardy.” [Eternal Security, pages 74, 93-94, 121]

And yet, God, in His Holy Word, has stated something completely different. Matthew 10:22 states that we must endure in the faith until the end; and 1 John 2:19 states that those who leave the faith were never really of the faith in the first place. They are not saved and never were; and Revelation 21:8 states that “the cowardly, the unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake with burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” These people are not saved regardless of how many professions of faith they may have made. They are not true Christians, but at best are only pseudo-Christians.

On pages 124-126 of “Eternal Security,” Stanley writes, “The final verse of this parable [note: Matthew 25:14-30] is so severe that many commentators assume it is a description of hell. It is not. …Where is this place represented by the ‘outer darkness’ in Jesus’ parable? To be in the “outer darkness” is to be in the kingdom of God but outside the circle of men and women whose faithfulness on this earth earned them a special rank or position of authority.”

Again, Stanley’s teaching is contrary to God’s teaching. In Matthew 25:30 we see where God states to “cast the worthless servant in the outer darkness” where there is “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” But is this still an area of heaven as Charles Stanley teaches? A few verses later in verse 46 we see that those who are cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth are actually being cast into eternal punishment, while the righteous go away into everlasting life. And lest there be any mistake about this, Matthew 13:41-42 very clearly identifies the lake of fire as the place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. [cf. Revelation 22:14-15]

Charles Stanley is truly a false teacher who teaches the heresy of Antinomianism, and according to Scripture, he is to be accursed.

Regarding Tony Evans, he is guilty of teaching the heresies of Inclusivism, Limited Theism, and Pelagianism.

Evans teaches that a person who has never heard of God or of Jesus, and who has never heard the gospel, as long as they believe that something or someone created everything, and have a desire to know that higher power, then God has an obligation to grant that person eternal life in heaven. Evans calls this “transdispensationalism.” [interview between Tony Evans, pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, and Glenn Plumber was conducted at the National Religious Broadcasters’ Convention in 2003 or 2004; and “Totally Saved” by Tony Evans, Page 360]

This inclusivistic gospel is completely contrary to a number of Scripture passages such as Mark 1:15 and Romans 10:9-15, 17; and more importantly it is contrary to the very words of Jesus when He said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6). Whereas God says you must hear the gospel, you must be told about Jesus, and you must come to saving faith through Him; Tony Evan says no, Jesus and the gospel are not really necessary to salvation. This is, of course, the kind of gospel that God anathematizes in

Hello Luna & Debbie & all those concerned about the inclusion of John Piper in this list of wolves.,

By and large Piper is a good teacher. I have questions regarding his continual partnering with known false teachers, but that is not why he is on this list. What got him here is his heretical teaching of a two-stage salvation. While he believes salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, he says that is only enough to bring you to the first stage of salvation, which is to say, Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection isn't enough. He goes on to teach that in order to reach the second stage of salvation, what he calls "final salvation," one must complete enough good works to warrant entrance into heaven. Again, in short, John Piper's "gospel" is that we are saved by grace through faith PLUS works.

With as many people as ask me about this, I think I may need to do a full article that goes into more detail, and which includes sources so people can see and hear for themselves.
