Before we begin, I want to point out that I know the New IFB will do everything in their power to have this video removed. I fully expect to have it, and probably my channel, taken down almost immediately as they will no doubt report this video en mass with pointless claims of whatever. Privacy invasion, copyright infringement, hate speech, whatever they can think of. YouTube doesn’t always watch the video’s that people complain about, they just take them down and wait for the poster to file an appeal. Then they watch the video and see if the appeal is valid, and if it, the video and the channel are restored. This is what the New IFB does, and both Todd and I have played this game with them several times in the past. As predictable as they are, I fully expect them to do it again. To that end, I have ensure that this video is 100% within YouTube and Google’s guidelines. It violates nothing. I have permissions for all the music, and so forth, and I have gone back through and bleeped out all the personal names of New IFB people. We can’t have their privacy violated even though they violate other people’s privacy and rights on a regular basis. That being said, however, I will be posting this video along with a complete unedited transcript of everything I am saying to the Reason Files website. Voice to text is an awesome program. This way you will be read along, and see the names that I have bleeped out in the video. I will provide a link to the website in the comment section below.
This is my friend, my brother in Christ, Todd Ferguson. As some of you know, Todd went missing on January 20th, 2021 between 6 and 7pm. He stepped out of his apartment to buy some shoes from a street peddler. Todd was a kind and generous man, and always ready and willing to help those who were down on their luck. I suspect he believed this person, a woman, was just that, and in need of a helping hand. That would be just like Todd. Always willing to help people. It didn’t matter who you were.
Unfortunately, Todd was not seen again. He simply disappeared without a word to anyone about where he might be going.

There was no word from or about Todd. On February 1st, I posted a video telling people that Todd was missing, and on February 3rd came the dreaded news, Todd’s body was found in an alley approximately 5 blocks away. Although his body had been found on the morning of January 21st, the police did not know who he was. He was simply listed as a John Doe. Not only was Todd’s Jeep still missing, but his cell phone was gone, his pockets emptied, his money and bank cards gone, and, of course, his identification was gone. His body was not identified by the coroner until January 26th, and the family not notified until February 3rd.
When Todd’s body was found, he had a single wound on the top of his head, above the hairline. The coroner has yet to provide a reasonable explanation for this wound, saying Todd might have received it by falling down. Typically, however, when people fall down they generally hit the side or back of the head, or the facial area. People don’t fall down and hit the top of their head.

The area where Todd’s body was found, is not an area that Todd would have normally been in, and especially overnight, and especially with an overnight low of only 27 degrees. There is absolutely no reasonable explanation for Todd to have been there alone, all night, in an area known to be a rough part of Columbus. The coroner has stated that Todd died between 8am and 9am on January 21st. Todd was an intelligent and reasonable man. He would not have been out in that weather, overnight, dressed as he was, which was not for below freezing temperatures. And no one has an explanation for the 13 to 15 hours that Todd was missing and unaccounted for.
I have known Todd for several years now, and some members of his family for more than 20 years. We spent quite a bit of time together as we were both retired, either at his house or mine, and often spending our time discussing the Bible. “Iron Sharpens Iron” the Bible says in Proverbs 27:17, and I certainly benefited from those times spent with Todd.
In 2018, Todd came to me and asked me about an online preacher he had come across on YouTube. That preachers name is Steven Anderson. I had never heard of Anderson before this, and so I began to research him so I could give Todd an answer. My initial research told me that Anderson would be someone to stay away from, and I told Todd this, and I told Todd why. For Todd, however, it was not enough, and he began to watch more of Steven Anderson’s videos, and learning about the New IFB and some of the other people involved. By December of 2018, Todd had convinced me that this group really needed to be researched and the more we researched them, the more we dug into their history and theology and behavior, the more we found that was troubling. Todd was essential to this research.
For every video that I sat through taking notes, Todd sat through ten of them. For every interview I did, Todd conducted even more. All in all between the two of us, I think we conducted more than 50 interviews with current and former New IFB people, as well as with reporters, law enforcement, other pastors, and people with intimate knowledge of the New IFB. Of those 50+ interviews, I conducted maybe a dozen of them. Todd not only conducted all the rest of them, but he was the one with the skills to track all of these people down. I could not have done even half of the work Todd did. He was amazing! A natural born investigator.
Initially, I wrote an article about them for The Reason Files website blog. Then another, and another, and eventually 15 articles in all. Then Todd suggested we make some videos for YouTube. It was a great idea, and we got started. I soon found out that Todd was much better at it than I was, producing several videos for each single video that I put out.
Initially, the New IFB ignored us. Then they were annoyed by us. And the more we found and revealed about their cult, the madder they got. They began a smear campaign against Todd and me and The Reason Files. They lied about us, they slandered us, they mocked us, called us demeaning names, and so forth. Then they began making death threats against the two of us. They threatened us in social media posts, they threatened us in their private group chats, and they threatened us in their pulpits.
Aaron Thompson, the so-called “pastor” at Sure Foundation Baptist Church in Vancouver, Washington put it succinctly when he said to his congregation during one of his sermons about us, “They just need to die” before going on to describe colorful methods for our deaths, such as having a bus fall on us. From the pulpit. To the congregation. To men, women, children of all ages. In what is ostensibly a Christian church.
It wasn’t just Aaron Thompson, but Bruce Mejia, Joe Jones, Roger Jimenez, David Berzins, Jason Robinson, and even Steven Anderson himself all joined in with the “Hate Todd and Robert Club.” As Todd would often say, we were living rent free in their heads. We were almost honored by all the attention. Neither of us had been the subject of a sermon before, much less several sermons by several different pastors in several different states! Of course, the death threats were troubling. But as Todd would keep reminding me, what’s the worst they can do to us? Send us home to be with the Lord?
It wasn’t long before hatred for us being spewed from the pulpit by these New IFB pastors, managed to lodge in the minds of the congregation. And that could be a problem. When Steven Anderson preached from his pulpit that President Obama needed to die (just as Aaron Thompson said about Todd and me), one of Anderson’s church members grabbed his handgun and his AR-15 and headed down to an appearance by the then president. He did nothing more than wander around in the crowd with his rifle and handgun prominently displayed, but who knows what was going through his mind? And who knows what he might have done? What we do know is that the idea for his actions came from the pulpit, from his New IFB pastor. And now those same New IFB church members were looking at Todd and me.
The verbal and social media attacks came, of course. New IFB member Ray Flores of First Works Baptist Church in El Monte, California, Bruce Mejia’s church, began making lewd and offensive comments on our YouTube videos, and eventually went on to create a couple of YouTube channels of his own, but naming them after us. Making them appear as if they were real Reason Files channels. On these channels he placed homosexual themed videos, but gave them the same names as some of our videos, and he used our thumb nails for those videos, so as to deceive people into watching his homosexual pornography that he had uploaded.
As vile a tactic as this was, we had to wonder how he even knew where to go to find homosexual videos. And since the videos he uploaded to YouTube disguised to look like our videos were only a few minutes long, this meant he had to watch homosexual pornographic films in their entirety in order to extract those brief clips.
This same Ray Flores, who uses the YouTube screen name of RayKJV and ReasonFiles (all one word), and Reason Files 3, has also made some very graphic homosexual comments about what he wanted to do to Todd. Doesn’t this seem just a bit odd that someone in a New IFB church would be making such comments and watching such films? I wonder why Bruce Mejia allowed it and doesn’t do anything about it. Very curious indeed.
Ray Flores was certainly not the only New IFB member to make vile comments about us, lie about us, slander us, etc., and even make death threats against us. There have been more than I can count. I am sure many people watching this video have heard the 10 minute phone call between Todd and Ben Naim (who goes by the name Ben the Baptist in an attempt to fashion himself as a modern day John the Baptist), where Ben told Todd he wanted him to die, that he would blow his brains out, etc., well, I’ll let Ben speak for himself. Here is a brief clip from his 10 minute rant against Todd.
Two months after Ben stated he wanted to blow Todd’s brains out, and, coincidentally, only 3 months after Bruce Mejia stated, “Dead LOL” with a skull emoji on as a response to Todd; Todd is found dead. Just as the New IFB stated he would be.
On February 3rd, when the family and then I was notified of Todd’s death, I posted a video letting people know that Todd’s body had been found. The outpouring of genuine care, concern, love, and sympathy has been overwhelming. Both Todd’s family and me are sincerely thankful for each one of you. Thank you so much for all your messages of support. They mean a lot.
At the same time, however, the New IFB was also on hand to spread their filth. They quickly trolled both of these videos, as well as several of the other videos that Todd and I had made, posting all manner of lies and slander about Todd, mocking his death, celebrating his death. Almost immediately, New IFB YouTube channels popped up, created by someone named “Stephen the Blasphemous” that featured a hastily made video celebrating Todd’s death, and another channel by the same person featuring 100 brief videos all uploaded in under an hour, with 99 of them being old shoe commercials and the 100th a celebration of Todd’s death. The shoe videos are a reference to “Stephen the Blasphemous’” repeated slur against Todd, saying that the phrase “buying shoes” (which as you remember is what Todd was doing when he disappeared), that the phrase is street slang for buying illegal drugs, and also for soliciting gay sex; implying that is what Todd was doing when he went missing and was killed.
Initially I believed this Stephen the Blasphemous was a troll account for New IFB pastor Aaron Thompson. I based this on both of them using the same phraseology. However, Stephen the Blasphemous later revealed that he was a member of Faithful Word Baptist Church and his name was Steven Schumacher. He claimed to have been present at FWBC when certain members were kicked out. Numerous former members of FWBC then contacted me and told me that there was never anyone by the name of Steven Schumacher (or Shoe Maker, which is what the name means – back to the shoe reference), and an investigation revealed that the account was based in Arizona. These same former members, each one of them, is convinced that Steven Schumacher is none other than Steven Anderson himself. He was the only one who insisted that person was thrown out of his church, when in fact, the people and their family simply stopped coming of their own volition. Anderson’s narcissism would not allow him to accept someone just not coming to his services.
There has also been another video. A more ominous video. It lasts for only 3 minutes, and for the entire 3 minutes a single message appears on the screen. That message says, “Todd Ferguson’s sins have caught up to him. He has now been permanently cursed by God.”
This video was posted to YouTube on January 30th, 2021. Two full days before I posted the video notifying everyone that Todd was missing, and four full days before anyone even knew Todd was dead. Yet the person or persons who created this video made these statements, both of which indicate a degree of finality. His sins have caught up to him. Meaning he can no longer escape them, it is judgment day; and, that Todd has “now been permanently cursed by God.” The only time in a person’s life where they are beyond all hope of salvation is when they are dead. It is only when a person is dead that they are judged for their sins and “permanently cursed by God,” by being cast into hell.
The obvious question for me is, how did this person or persons know that Todd was dead before the family knew? And, of course, who is this person or persons? The title of the video as well as the title of the channel it is posted on (and the only video on that channel), all point to the New IFB. The title includes Todd’s name, the Reason Files and the New IFB. The channel name, The Treason Hyles, is similar to what David Berzins and Joe Jones have called us, namely, The Treason Files. The similarities cannot be ignored.
With that in mind, take a look at the comments left by members of the New IFB in reference to Todd and his death, and remember, these comments are the fruit of Steven Anderson, Bruce Mejia, Roger Jimenez, Jonathan Shelley, Aaron Thompson, and the rest of the New IFB pastors. They are the fruit of the New IFB.
Luke 6:43-45 says,
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.


And Matthew 7:15-20 says,
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.


Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them, my friends, and this bad fruit that you see here, that the family and I have had to deal with over the past week, will be cut down and cast into the fire as Jesus says.


Scripture goes on to teach us in Philippians 4:8,
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.


And Hebrews 12:14 says,
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord


Does this sound like the New IFB to you? No, and as they are, they will not see the Lord.


In Matthew 5:43-48 Jesus said,
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.


Again, here are six more verses the New IFB completely ignores. And there is a reason they ignore these passages, as well as many, many other passages, and that is because they are not Christians. We see this when we look at Galatians chapter 5.
In verses 22-23 we see the fruit of the Spirit that is exhibited in Christians, in true Christians.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.


Do we see these fruits in the New IFB? If we are honest, then no, we do not. What we do see in the New IFB is contained in the list found in verses 19-21:


19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.


8 of the 17 works of the flesh are exhibited in the New IFB comments featured on these two videos. They are: Hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, envyings and murder.


Each of these words have a very specific meaning.


Hatred (echthra - hatred, hostility),
Variance (eris - having a contentious or argumentative spirit),
Emulations (zelos - burning emotion, we get our word Zealous from this),
Wrath (thumos - passion-driven violent behavior),
Strife (eritheia, er-ith-i'-ah - places self-interest ahead of what the Lord declares right),
Seditions (dichostasia, dee-khos-tas-ee'-ah, causing or creating divisions which wrongly separate people),
Envyings (phthonos, fthon'-os, "the feeling of ill-will", the miserable trait of being glad when someone experiences misfortune or pain),
Murders (remember Matthew 5, the sins of the heart and mind are treated as if they had been carried out physically).


There is no doubt that the New IFB, as so clearly shown in these comments, exhibits these traits, these works of the flesh. And as verse 21 says, they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.


They are not saved. They are not Christians. They are false teachers. Wolves, whose sole purpose is to deceive the children of God and lead people astray, lead them straight to the gates of hell. And that is why Todd and I have been working diligently to expose them.
Ephesians 5:8-11 reminds us that we were “sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

And that is precisely what we have been doing for the past two years, and what I will continue to do. Todd would have wanted that way. And he would have approved of this video. Had he still be alive, he would have made it himself.
Thank you all for watching, and ignore the New IFB trolls that will undoubtedly leave plenty of vile and obscene comments in the comment section. Just know that this is what they do, this is who they are. Getting down into the mud with them will do nothing more than make you dirty. It will not change them one bit. They are lost in their sin and in desperate need of prayer and salvation. That should be our prayer.

Sola Gratia (Grace Alone)
This means that we are saved from our sins and damnation by the unmerited grace of God alone without any of our works. Grace is the completely unmerited, undeserved favor of God that he bestows upon us. The grace of God is completely motivated out of his own character and is his kind intention and merciful action upon various individuals. Thus, we are saved from his righteous judgment by his unmerited and under earned favor, and there is nothing that we can or have done that can move God to be gracious to us.

Sola Scriptura (according to Scripture Alone)
This is not “Solo Scriptura” (which means Scripture ONLY, discounting all councils, creeds and traditions); but rather, Sola Scriptura means that the Scriptures alone are the final and the highest authority. Everything that the Scriptures address are to be used as the final word on particular topic. All things that we learn from other sources must be compared to Scripture, and if they do not match Scripture or if they contradict Scripture, then we are not to affirm them. The Bible says not to exceed what is written. To say or assume that any saying or writing outside of the 66 books of inspired Scripture are the words of God, is to elevate the author of those words to the equivalent of God, which is, of course, blasphemy. Additionally, we do not say the Bible contains the words of God, but rather that the Bible IS the word of God.

The Temptation of Jesus by Satan [Matt. 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13; Mark 1:13] Each time Satan tempted Him, Jesus responded by referring to Scripture rather than tradition.

Soli Deo Glory (to the Glory of God Alone)
This means that God alone is the one who is to receive all glory. He alone is the author and finisher of our salvation, and He works all good things through our lives. He has revealed himself in the person of Jesus, and in great humility and love died on the cross, bearing our sin (1 Peter 2:24), so that we might enjoy his presence forever. We are to live for him and glorify him (Isaiah 43:7); for this is the clear teaching of Scripture: that whatever we do, we do all for the glory of God (1 Cor.10:31; Col.3:17).

The Doctrines of Grace
The Doctrines of Grace, also known as The Five Points of Calvinism, or simply the acronym T.U.L.I.P., are what many people consider to be the basis of Calvinism, or Reformed Theology. And while it is true that Reformed Theology does contain these doctrines, there is so much more to it than just T.U.L.I.P. But for the purposes of this article, we are only concerned with those five particular doctrines.
Many people have an profound hatred of these five doctrines, primarily because they hate "Calvinism." Such hatred is actually quite irrational since all five of these doctrines are clearly taught in Scripture, as we will soon see.
The five doctrines, which we will examine here, are, 1 Total Depravity (or Total Inability), 2. Unconditional Election, 3. Limited Atonement (or Particular Redemption), 4. Irresistible Grace, 5. Perseverance/Preservation of the Saints.

Total Depravity / Total Inability
Total Depravity does not mean that all human beings are as wicked as they can possibly be. It also does not mean that human beings are incapable of doing something good. It means that the fall was so serious that it affects the whole person. It means that everything we say, think, and do is tainted with sin and so we are incapable of producing one completely pure, wholesome, and good thing that will be acceptable to God. Nothing coming from us will ever meet God’s standard of goodness. This is the result of original sin, the sin of Adam. Although there are some who contend that original sin was covered at the cross for all of mankind, the simple fact that everything degrades, decays, and dies is proof positive that original sin is still inherent in everything. Scripture reiterates this over and over again.

Unconditional Election
Unconditional Election is the decision God freely makes, based on His own sovereign will, for His glory and for no other reason, to save us from eternal damnation in hell, which is what our sin demands. It is not based on anything we do, or are able to do, or will do at some point in the future. God does not “look down the corridor of time and see that we will accept the gospel” and thus based on our future decision choose to elect us to salvation. Our election to salvation is completely unmerited, and was determined by God before the foundation of the world.

Limited Atonement / Particular Redemption
Limited atonement, also known as particular redemption, is the biblical teaching that Jesus died a propitiatory death and atoned only for the elect (those chosen for salvation by God) and not for every person that has ever lived or will live. For if Jesus atoned for everyone, then no one would be in hell and everyone goes to heaven (Universalism). If He atoned for everyone, and any are in hell being punished for, or “working off” their sins (as some Universalists and Romanists believe), then His atonement is insufficient and He failed.

Irresistible Grace / Effectual Grace / Effectual Call
Irresistible grace does not mean that God’s grace is incapable of being resisted. Indeed, we are capable of resisting God’s grace, and we do resist it. The idea is that God’s grace is so powerful that it has the capacity to overcome our natural resistance to it. It is not that the Holy Spirit drags people kicking and screaming to Christ against their wills. The Holy Spirit changes the inclination and disposition of our wills, so that whereas we were previously unwilling to embrace Christ, now we are willing, and more than willing. Indeed, we aren’t dragged to Christ, we run to Christ, and we embrace Him joyfully because the Spirit has changed our hearts.

Perseverance / Preservation of the Saints
There are two aspects of this doctrine. The first is that God preserves His children. He will ensure that each one of them endures till the end and enters heaven. The other is that each true believer must persevere until the end. They cannot simply sit by and wait on God to deliver them into the Kingdom of Heaven. They must each endure through loving obedience to God. He will preserve, we must persevere.

The Sovereignty of God
The doctrine of the sovereignty of God teaches that as the Creator, Owner, and Possessor of heaven, earth, the entire universe and everything within it, God is in absolute supreme authority over everything. He has the absolute and incontestable right and authority to do or allow whatever He desires according to His good pleasure. He is the ultimate source of all power, authority, and everything that exists. He has no limitations. All things are under His complete control, including nature, earthly leaders, history, people, the environment, angels, and demons. Introduction
What is Regeneration?

"Except a man be born again1, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Our Lord Jesus Christ taught that the new birth is so important that no one can see heaven without it. Mistakes concerning this doctrine have been very destructive to the Church of Christ. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God. It is not a work of man. It is not something that man does but something that God does. The new birth is a change wrought in us, not an act performed by us. This is stated so beautifully by the Apostle John when in the first chapter of his Gospel he speaks of the children of God as those "which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (v. 13).
What is "Decisional Regeneration"?
The history of the Christian Church has seen many errors concerning the new birth. These teachings depart from Scripture by attributing to man the ability to regenerate himself. When these false concepts of man and the new birth are adopted, churches soon become corrupted with false practices. The Roman Catholic church, the Anglican church, the Lutheran church and many other churches have all been corrupted at different times and to different degrees with the teaching of Baptismal Regeneration. Because of this erroneous teaching on regeneration, these churches have embraced false practices.
In the nineteenth century few controversies were so heated as the one over Baptismal Regeneration. It is interesting to note that C. H. Spurgeon (1836-1892), the most prolific preacher of that century, had printed in 1864 more copies of his sermon denouncing Baptismal Regeneration than of any other sermon. Baptismal Regeneration teaches that the new birth is conveyed by the waters of baptism. The sacrament is performed by man and is in his control.
But the twentieth century Church has, in "Decisional Regeneration," a more subtle falsehood to combat. "Decisional Regeneration" differs from Baptismal Regeneration only in the fact that it attaches the certainty of the new birth to a different act. This doctrine, just as Baptismal Regeneration, sees the new birth as the result of a mechanical process that can be performed by man. What is here called "Decisional Regeneration" has in its deceptive way permeated much of the Christian Church.
Our Purpose
The methods and theology of those that practice "Decisional Regeneration" need to be examined — not with a malicious spirit, but with a fervent desire that all of God's people may be one in doctrine and practice for the glory of God. We love all that are in Christ. But we agree wholeheartedly with Charles Spurgeon that:
The best way to promote union is to promote truth. It will not do for us to be all united together by yielding to one another's mistakes. We are to love each other in Christ; but we are not to be so united that we are not able to see each other's faults, and especially not able to see our own. No purge the house of God, and then shall grand and blessed times dawn on us,"2.
So then our purpose is not to question the sincerity of some Christians or to malign them, but to unite Christians in the truth as it is in our Lord. This alone is true Christian unity.
As we earnestly seek to bring unity to the Church of Christ let us turn from falsehood unto God's truth. The practice of "Decisional Regeneration" in the Church must be exposed in order to save men from the damning delusion that because they have "decided" or "signed a card," they are going to heaven and are no longer under the wrath of God. The purity of the gospel is of extreme importance because it alone is the power of God unto salvation and the true basis of Christian unity.
Decisional Regeneration and Counseling
Some may still not understand exactly what is here meant by this term "Decisional Regeneration." Perhaps some are unfamiliar with the counseling courses that are being taught by many organizations in this country and abroad, and with the numerous "Soul Winning Conferences" that are taking place. In these meetings counselors are instructed that successful counseling must conclude with an individual's absolute assurance of salvation. Counselors are often instructed to assure an individual that his salvation is certain because he has prayed the prescribed prayer, and he has said "yes" to all the right questions.
We have an illustration of "Decisional Regeneration" when a popular present-day preacher prescribes a counseling procedure. He directs "Mr. Soul Winner" to ask an unconverted "Mr. Blank" a series of questions. If "Mr. Blank" says "yes" to all the questions, he is asked to pray a prescribed prayer and is then pronounced saved3. For the most part this counseling results in an individual being "regenerated" through a decision. This is essentially the same counseling method used in large evangelistic crusades across the world. These campaigns are like huge factories turning out as many as ten thousand "decisions" in a week.
Mr. Iain Murray, in his timely book The Forgotten Spurgeon, points out that this same type of counseling is used in youth work:
For example, a booklet, which is much circulated in student evangelism at the present time, lays down 'Three simple steps' to becoming a Christian: first, personal acknowledgment of sin, and second, personal belief in Christ's substitutionary work. These two are described as preliminary, but 'the third so final that to take it will make me a Christian. . .I must come to Christ and claim my personal share in what He did for everybody.' This all-decisive third step rests with me; Christ 'waits patiently until I open the door. Then He will come in....' Once I have done this I may immediately regard myself as a Christian. The advice follows: 'Tell somebody today what you have done.'4
There are many variations of this type of counseling, but they all have in common a mechanical element such as the repeating of a prayer or signing of a card upon the performance of which the individual is assured of his salvation. Regeneration has thereby been reduced to a procedure which man performs. How differently did Jesus Christ deal with sinners. He did not have any instant salvation process. He did not speak to people with a stereotyped presentation. He dealt with every individual on a personal basis. Never in the New Testament do we find Christ dealing with any two persons in the same manner. It is enlightening to compare how differently He dealt with Nicodemus in John 3, and then with the woman at the well in John 4. Counseling needs to be personal.
There are a number of other problems with a mechanical counseling. Mr. Murray has pointed out the fact that on the basis of this counseling ?
A man may make a profession without ever having his confidence in his own ability shattered; he has been told absolutely nothing of his need of a change of nature which is not within his own power, and consequently, if he does not experience such a radical change, he is not dismayed. He was never told it was essential so he sees no reason to doubt whether he is a Christian. Indeed, the teaching he has come under consistently militates against such doubts arising. It is frequently said that a man who has made a decision with little evidence of a change of life may be a 'carnal' Christian who needs instruction in holiness, or if the same individual should gradually lose his new-found interests, the fault is frequently attributed to lack of 'follow-up,' or prayer, or some other deficiency on the part of the Church. The possibility that these marks of worldliness and falling away are due to the absence of a saving experience at the outset is rarely considered; if this point were faced, then the whole system of appeals, decisions and counseling would collapse, because it would bring to the fore the fact that change of nature is not in man's power, and that it takes much longer than a few hours or days to establish whether a professed response to the gospel is genuine. But instead of facing this, it is protested that to doubt whether a man who has 'accepted Christ' is a Christian is tantamount to doubting the Word of God, and that to abandon 'appeals' and their adjuncts is to give up evangelism altogether."5
The counseling of "Decisional Regeneration" produces statistics that would encourage any Christian-until he follows up the so-called converts. In one heartbreaking experience forty "converts" of such counseling were contacted and only one person of these forty was found who appeared to be a Christian. One lady may have been reached, but what were the effects of the encounter on the other thirty-nine? Some of them may believe their eternal destinies were determined by their decisions, which is a fatal confidence if no change was wrought in their hearts and lives. The others may have concluded that they had experienced all that Christianity has to offer. Failing to feel or see any promised change in themselves, they have become convinced that Christianity is a fake and that those who hold it are either self-deluded fanatics or miserable hypocrites.
Robert Dabney, one of the great theologians of the nineteenth century, made some very penetrating observations concerning the disillusionment of people that have been counseled for a decision., he said:
Some of these individuals feel that a cruel trick has been played upon their inexperience by the ministers and friends of Christianity in thus thrusting them, in the hour of their confusion, into false positions, whose duties they do not and cannot perform, and into sacred professions which they have been compelled shamefully to repudiate. Their self respect is therefore galled to the quick, and pride is indignant at the humiliating exposure. No wonder that they look on religion and its advocates henceforward with suspicion and anger. Often their feelings do not stop here. They are conscious that they were thoroughly in earnest in their religious anxieties and resolves at the time, and that they felt strange and profound exercises. Yet bitter and mortifying experience has taught them that their new birth and experimental religion at least was a delusion. How natural to conclude that those of all others are delusions also? They say: 'the only difference between myself and these earnest Christians is, that they have not yet detected the cheat as I have. They are now not a whit more convinced of their sincerity and of the reality of their exercises than I once was of mine. Yet I know there was no change in my soul; I do not believe that there is in theirs.' Such is the fatal process of thought through which thousands have passed; until the country is sprinkled all over with infidels, who have been made such by their own experience of spurious religious excitements. They may keep their hostility to themselves in the main; because Christianity now 'walks in her silver slippers'; but they are not the less steeled against all saving impressions of the truth."6
Dabney penned these words a hundred years ago, long before the days of the "mass evangelism" and highly organized campaigns. If a hundred years ago the country was "sprinkled all over with infidels, who had been made such by their own experience of spurious religious excitements," what must be the situation today? This is a serious question for every Christian. To have led men, even sincerely, into false hope will be an awful condemnation for a Christian when he stands before Almighty God.
Decisional Regeneration and Altar Calls
One may read thousands of pages of the history of the Christian Church without finding a single reference to the "old-fashioned altar call" before the last century. Most Christians are surprised to learn that history before the time of Charles G. Finney (1792-1875) knows nothing of this type of "invitation." The practice of urging men and women to make a physical movement at the conclusion of a meeting was introduced by Mr. Finney in the second decade of the nineteenth century. Dr. Albert B. Dod, a professor of theology at Princeton Seminary at the time of Mr. Finney's ministry, pointed out the newness of the practice and showed that this method was without historical precedent. In his review of Finney's Lectures on Revival, Professor Dod stated that one will search the volumes of church history in vain for a single example of this practice before the 1820's.7 Instead, history tells us that whenever the gospel was preached men were invited to Christ-not to decide at the end of a sermon whether or not to perform some physical action.
The Apostle Paul, the great evangelist, never heard of an altar call, yet today some consider the altar call to be a necessary mark of an evangelical church. In fact, churches which do not practice it are often accused of having no concern for the lost. Neither Paul nor Peter ever climaxed his preaching with forcing upon his hearers the decision to walk or not to walk. It is not only with church history, then, but with Scriptural history as well that the altar call is in conflict.
One may ask, "How did preachers of the gospel for the previous eighteen hundred years invite men to Christ without the use of the altar call?" They did so in much the same way as did the apostles and the other witnesses of the early Church. Their messages were filled with invitations for all men everywhere to come to Christ.
Surely it will be admitted that the first sermon of the Christian Church was not climaxed by an altar call. Peter on the Day of Pentecost concluded his sermon with these words: "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ." Peter stopped. Then the divinely inspired record tells us: "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?' " (Acts 2:36-37). This response was the result of the work of the Spirit of God, not of clever appeals or psychological pressure. That day the apostles witnessed the conversion of three thousand people.
C. H. Spurgeon invited men to come to Christ, not to an altar. Listen to him invite men to Jesus Christ:
Before you leave this place breathe an earnest prayer to God, saying, 'God be merciful to me a sinner. Lord, I need to be saved. Save me. I call upon Thy name....Lord, I am guilty, I deserve Thy wrath. Lord, I cannot save myself. Lord, I would have a new heart and a right spirit, but what can I do? Lord, I can do nothing, come and work in me to do of Thy good pleasure.

To whom, or whither should I go
If I should run from Thee?

But I now do from my very soul call upon Thy name. Trembling, yet believing, I cast myself wholly upon Thee, O Lord. I trust the blood and righteousness of Thy dear Son.... Lord, save me tonight, for Jesus' sake.' " "Go home alone trusting in Jesus. 'I should like to go into the enquiry-room.' I dare say you would, but we are not willing to pander to popular superstition. We fear that in those rooms men are warmed into a fictitious confidence. Very few of the supposed converts of enquiry-rooms turn out well. Go to your God at once, even where you now are. Cast yourself on Christ, at once, ere you stir an inch!8
Invitations such as Spurgeon gave directing men to Christ and not to aisles are needed today. George Whitefield's sermons were long invitations to men to come to Christ, not to an altar. The same may be said of the preaching of Jonathan Edwards, of the Reformers and of others in the past who were blessed with a harvest of many souls using Scriptural means of inviting men to Christ.
Today the altar call has become the climax and culmination of the entire meeting. Many stanzas of a hymn are usually sung, during which time all kinds of appeals are made to the sinner to walk the aisle, and the clear impression is given to the sinner that his eternal destiny hangs on this movement of his feet.
"Just As I Am," the precious hymn perhaps most frequently sung for the altar call, was written in 1836 by Charlotte Elliott:
Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bid'st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

The phrase, "O Lamb of God, I come, I come," has been widely used to encourage people to "come" down the aisle. But it is significant that Miss Elliott wrote the hymn for the infirm and that it first appeared in a hymnal prepared especially for invalids.9 To Miss Elliott, coming to Christ was not walking an aisle.
Although most who use the altar call realize that coming to Christ is not synonymous with coming to the altar, they do give the impression to sinners that the first step in coming to Christ is walking the aisle. I am purposefully being very careful not to misstate the case. I understand the sincerity of those who practice the altar call, it having been a part of every service from my earliest memory until college. In fact, I grew up in Christian circles unaware that evangelical Christianity existed without the altar call. In many services during this time my mind was centered on the glorious person of Christ and His suffering on the cross only to find the whole focus of the worship service suddenly changed at the conclusion from seeing the glories and sufferings of Christ to walking an aisle. Many others have spoken of the same experience — that the altar call and the clever appeals at the conclusion of meetings, the decision to walk or not to walk and the wondering how many will respond, have distracted them from seeking Christ and from worshipping God in spirit and truth.
Do you remember how the crowds physically followed our Lord Christ until He began to preach some unpopular truths? Then the crowds turned back (John 6:66). Why? Had they not come to Jesus with their feet? Yes, but this is not the coming to Him that is necessary for salvation. Christ said, "All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37). And again He said, "No man can come to me except the Father draw him" (John 6:44). In neither of these instances was Jesus speaking of the physical movement of the feet.
Men today need to be reminded that coming to Christ is not walking an aisle, but is casting oneself on Christ for life or death. May God cause the Church to return to the Scriptures for its methods of winning men to Christ. May sinners be charged not to come forward in a meeting but to come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Decisional Regeneration and Preaching
The false teaching of "Decisional Regeneration" has polluted even the structure of the sermon. Jack Hyles, considered by many to be an authority on preaching, gives the following advice to his fellow-ministers:
Many of us in our preaching will make such statements as, 'Now, in conclusion'; 'Finally, may I say'; 'My last point is . . .'. These statements are sometimes dangerous. The sinner knows five minutes before you finish; hence he digs in and prepares himself for the invitation so that he does not respond. However, if your closing is abrupt and a lost person does not suspect that you are about finished, you have crept up on him and he will not have time to prepare himself for the invitation. Many people may be reached, using this method.10
At the first reading of such a teaching one might believe, or at least hope, that he misread Mr. Hyles. The second, third and fourth readings, however, confirm that Mr. Hyles actually teaches that men may be converted to Christ as a result of some clever method a minister uses in his sermon, and that one's eternal destiny may be determined by the impulse of an unguarded moment. This idea that a man's salvation may depend upon his being "crept up on" and giving his unwilling consent is in direct conflict with what the Scriptures teach concerning the receiving of Jesus Christ. In reality the kind of Preaching that tries to creep up on sinners results for the most part in bringing people to religion, not to Christ. Can there be any more terrible result of a sermon than the bringing of people to something other than our Lord Jesus Christ?
True preaching is not a clever device of man, but a demonstration of the Spirit of God as the truth of God is proclaimed. I can never forget hearing Dr. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones illustrate what true preaching is with an account of George Whitefield preaching in the church of Jonathan Edwards:
There was this genius Jonathan Edwards listening to Whitefield, who wasn't in the same field, of course, from the standpoint of genius and ability and so on. But as he was listening to Whitefield, his face, says Whitefield, was shining. Edwards' face was shining and tears were streaming down his face. Edwards was recognizing this authentic, authoritative note — this preaching. Whitefield was in the Spirit. Edwards was in the Spirit, and the two were blended together. The whole congregation and the preacher were one in the hand of God. That is preaching. May God enable us to practice it and experience it.11
The preaching of which Dr. Lloyd-Jones is speaking of and which the New Testament speaks is far removed from the trickery used in much modern preaching. Biblical preaching declares that men are not born again by the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:13).
"Decisional Regeneration" does not bring men to Christ any more than does Baptismal Regeneration. It is true that some are converted under such preaching, but this is in spite of the false methods used, not because of them. The Bible is clear in its declaration that only by the Spirit of God can men be born again. True repentance and saving faith come as the result of the new birth and are never the cause of the great change. Repentance and faith are the acts of regenerated men, not of men dead in sins (Eph. 2:1, 5). However, God does not act for us; He does not believe for us; and He surely cannot repent for us — He has no sin for which to repent. We must personally, knowingly and willingly trust in Christ for salvation. Nor are we saying that preachers should not urge, yea, plead with men to repent and believe. Any preaching which merely rehearses the facts of the gospel without calling men to repentance and faith in Christ as a merciful and mighty Saviour of sinners is not biblical preaching.
The apostles taught that God saves His elect through the foolishness of preaching. All new methods devised by man can only fall far short of this ordained means of converting the sinner. The Church must forsake its carnal inventions and once again be guided by the teaching of Scripture if it is to expect God to bless its efforts and multiply its harvest. The Scriptural means of evangelizing is to "preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God" (I Cor. 1:23-24).
Decisional Regeneration and Theology
Whether it is openly recognized or not, there are always certain doctrinal presuppositions which underlie the methods used in evangelism. What kind of teaching, then, has allowed the Church to depart from historic Christianity and to take up these new devices?
The new birth according to our Lord Jesus Christ is sovereign work of the Spirit of God in the heart of man (John 3:8). Yet in conflict with Christ's teaching, one of the forefathers of this new evangelism states that "Religion is the work of man." This is a shocking statement, especially since it is found on the very first page of Lectures on Revivals of Religion, the most influential of all of Charles G. Finney's writings.12 The great theological difference between modern evangelism and biblical evangelism hinges on this basic question whether true religion is the work of God or of man. At best, the doctrine of "Decisional Regeneration" attributes the new birth partly to man and partly to God.
J. H. Merle d'Aubigne (1794-1872) in his The History of the Reformation in England states that
To believe in the power of man in the work of regeneration is the great heresy of Rome, and from that error has come the ruin of the Church. Conversion proceeds from the grace of God alone, and the system which ascribes it partly to man and partly to God is worse than Pelagianism.13
One of the greatest American theologians, Charles Hodge (1797-1878), also points out the danger of this teaching:
No more soul-destroying doctrine could well be devised than the doctrine that sinners can regenerate themselves, and repent and believe just when they please . . .  As it is a truth both of Scripture and of experience that the unrenewed man can do nothing of himself to secure his salvation, it is essential that he should be brought to a practical conviction of that truth. When thus convicted, and not before, he seeks help from the only source whence it can be obtained.14
In both the above statements stress is put upon man's helplessness to be born anew, and the necessity for God to create life. It is especially in these two areas that the doctrine of "Decisional Regeneration" deviates from the biblical doctrine of regeneration. This brings us to the foundational issue of "Decisional Regeneration": What is the spiritual condition of man?
Can a man be born again by answering "yes" to a certain group of questions? Can a man be born from "above" by walking to the front of a building? Can a man become a true Christian by responding to an invitation as a result of being "crept up on" unawares? Your answers to these questions will be determined by your view of man's spiritual condition. What is man's spiritual state?
The grand old Scottish theologian Thomas Boston (1676-1732) very vividly illustrated man's spiritual condition by comparing the unconverted person to a man in a pit. He can only get out of the pit in one of two ways: he may through much toil and difficulty scale the sides of the pit to the top, which is the way of works; or, he may grab hold of the rope of grace let down by Christ and be pulled out of his misery. Yes, he may decide to pull himself up by the rope of the gospel, "but, alas! the unconverted man is dead in the pit, and cannot help himself either of these ways.15
Man is spiritually dead in trespasses and sins and cannot please God (Eph. 2:1; Rom. 8:8). Our Saviour Himself portrayed man's condition as one of utter helplessness: "No man can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him"; "No man can come to me except it were given to him of my Father" (John 6:44, 65).
This state of death and bondage to sin cannot be changed by making a decision or by walking an aisle. A man cannot make himself a Christian. Only the Spirit of God can create a new man in Christ. God in His grace gives men new hearts. Only then can they willingly repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. God Himself has stated this truth by saying: "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes..." (Ezek. 36:26, 27). Jesus Christ also clearly said, "For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he wishes" (John 5:21).
The greatness of God's power in saving sinners can only be seen against the background of man's desperate condition. What a glorious doctrine is the new birth to the helpless sinner! May the Church return to biblical doctrine so that it may evangelize again to the glory of God.
How helpless guilty nature lies,
Unconscious of its load!
The heart, unchanged can never rise
To happiness and God.

The will perverse, the passions blind,
In paths of ruin stray;
Reason, debased, can never find
The safe, the narrow way.

Can aught, beneath a power divine,

What Must We Do?
It is not a time to be silent; it is time to speak out. We have kept quiet too long, somehow feeling that if we opposed these unbiblical practices we might be hindering the good work of evangelism, believing that among the multitudes of "decisions" there are some genuine conversions. But with every passing week thousands are being counseled into a false hope! Men are directed to walk aisles when they should be pointed to Christ alone. The high calling of preaching has degenerated into a series of gimmicks and tricks. These false practices have resulted from the perversion of biblical doctrine. In the midst of this darkness let us pray that God may be pleased to revive His Church again. This revival can come only through Christ. Men must turn afresh to His directions for counseling, to His free invitations to sinners and to the preaching of His gospel. Only then will our labors bring glory to God; and if God grants, many sinners will be converted for His glory.

Thoughts on the Christian Life

For many people, life as a Christian revolves around their local church. Sunday school, Sunday morning worship service, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening. Or at least some combination of these. This is their Christian life. Oh, to be sure they may see someone from church during the week, but by and large their Christian fellowship consists of those 3-4 hours per week when they are actually in the church building with other church members doing church things. While there is nothing wrong with this, and, in fact, is to be encouraged; what is wrong is that for some this is the sum total of their Christian experience.
God’s word paints a very different picture of what the Christian life is to look like. For example, Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us not only are we to assemble together (which most Christians do at least once a week), but also we are to “consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.”
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV)
But what does it mean to “consider one another”? As we all (should) know, the key to understanding Scripture, is Scripture itself. In other words, Scripture interprets and explains Scripture. In this case, we can turn to passages like Galatians 6:2 which reads,
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
And Ephesians 4:2, which reads,
“with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,”
And Colossians 3:13,
“bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
And, finally, Philippians 2:3-4,
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Do you see the overriding principle here? Christians are to bear with one another, looking out for the needs of other Christians, grieving with them when they grieve, happy with them when they are happy, bearing their burdens with them. This is part and parcel of what it means to be a Christian. To be clear, we do not do these things in order to be saved (which would be a works based salvation), but rather we do them because we are saved. We are talking about the fruit of salvation, not the root of it. And remember what Jesus said, we will be known by our fruit (Matthew 7:15-20).

That this same teaching is repeated over and over again throughout Scripture (such as in 1 Peter 4:8-10; 1 John 3:17-18; 1 Corinthians 12:24-27) demonstrates the importance of this teaching. In fact, it is an extension – if not the foundation – of the second greatest commandment, to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:35–40; Mark 12:28–34; Luke 10:27). For how can we love our neighbor if we do not love one another? And it was Jesus who said that our love for other Christians would be a defining characteristic of Christianity: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35 NKJV)

When we examine the early Church, the first Christians, we see that they put this into practice as they actively bore each other’s burdens.
“42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47 NKJV)
and,
“32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need. 36 And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, 37 having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” (Acts 4:32-37 NKJV)
Each one of them cared for the needs of the others. No one thought of him or herself first, no one was elevated to a position of favor, and each one was treated equally (1 Corinthians 12:25); and everyone was cheerfully caring for each other out of what they had. Well, almost everyone. Most Christians are familiar with Ananias and his wife Sapphira, who made much of their care for others, while secretly placing themselves above the others (Acts 5:1-11). It did not end well for them. And, as Peter makes very clear in this passage, there is no requirement that we must relinquish all we have in order to fill each other’s needs, especially to our own detriment. What it does mean, however, is that if we say we are going to care for others (as all Christians should be ready, willing, and thankful to do), then we should simply do it. Not say one thing and do another as Ananias and Sapphira did.
“For how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 NKJV)
This communality of the Church is an essential aspect of the Christian life, and one every Christian should take very seriously, especially in light of Matthew 25:31–46, paying particular attention to verses 41-46,
“41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ 44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
“inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.”

For those who do not care about or for others in the Church; for those who ignore the needs of their Christian brothers and sisters, for those who don’t visit or call or otherwise check on the well-being of their Christian brothers and sisters, these should be terrifying words indeed.

God has recently given us the opportunity to discuss some theological issues with other Christians who believe differently than we do on a number of points, most notably the doctrines of grace. In such a circumstance, given the overwhelming supply of scriptural evidence that comes to bear on the topic, it seemed to me that the best approach would be a simple categorized scripture list: the fact that the entire paper would be scriptures, with the exception of a few brief explanatory notes, would underscore the truth that this is God's own word and teaching; and the fact that it would be categorized would facilitate the ready comparison of scripture with scripture so as to lead one to a full-orbed understanding of the biblical teaching. Although I found a few good scripture lists of that nature available online, none of them was laid out in quite the progression that I was looking for, and so I developed my own. Limited Atonement
  1. God purposed to redeem a certain people and not others
1Ch 17:20-21  O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
Mat 22:14  For many are called, but few are chosen.
1Pe 2:8-9 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
Joh 17:20-21  Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:24-26  Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Rom 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
  1. The people for whom Christ intercedes are the same as the people for whom he offered himself up as a sacrifice
Heb 7:24-27  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Heb 9:12  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. [note context, in which entering into the holy place is explicitly for the purpose of intercession]
Heb 9:24-28  For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

  1. The atonement of Christ is effective
    1. To justify
Isa 53:11  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. [the single effective cause of justification in view here is the bearing of iniquities; all whose iniquities Christ bore must be justified]
Rom 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. [the argument here is that the fact of Christ's death, resurrection, and intercession is in itself an incontrovertibly effective reason for non-condemnation; if this verse is true, then no one for whom Christ died and was raised to intercede may be condemned]
  1. To redeem and cleanse from sins
Eph 5:25-27  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Tit 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
  1. To propitiate the Father
1Jo 2:2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. [“propitiation” means “the turning away or appeasement of wrath”; therefore, by definition, the Father has no more wrath against those whose sins have been propitiated]
1Jo 4:10  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
  1. To raise to new life
2Co 5:14-15 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. [the argument is a simple “if/then” proposition: “if” Christ died for someone, “then,” with no other conditions, that person died with him and was raised again]
1Pe 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
[See also, “Jesus' death purchased for his people a new heart; – faith; – repentance”. Jesus died in order to establish the New Covenant (Mt. 26:26-29, etc.); the New Covenant promised faith, repentance and knowledge of God (Jer. 31:33-34, Ez. 36:26-27, etc.); therefore, Jesus died in order to provide faith, repentance, and knowledge of God, as the fulfillment of a unilateral promise. This means that his death had a definite purpose which was intended for some and not others. His death effectively purchased faith; not all have faith; and so his death had an effective intent that was limited to certain persons.] 
  1. Those whom God purposed to redeem include all who believe
Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rev 5:9  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. [the first “all men” is explicitly tied to all classes of men, which gives warrant for understanding the second “all men” in the same way]
  1. Therefore, Christ's saving work is commonly spoken of in terms of “all,” “world,” etc.
Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Tit 2:11-14  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. [in the context of “all men” is the delimiting concept of a peculiar people, zealous of good works]
Heb 2:9-10  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. [notice that the many sons whom Christ brings to glory gives a contextual delimiter to the term “every”]
2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. [note that this desire is explicitly limited to “us” (Peter was writing to fellow-believers) in the context]

  1. Additional reasons that the atonement of Christ is not for all the sins of all people
    1. God punishes people in hell, which would be unjust if their sins were atoned for
Mar 9:43-44  And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
  1. If one were to say, “their sins are atoned for, but that atonement is not applied because of unbelief,” he fails to realize that unbelief is likewise a sin
Heb 3:12  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

  1. God bears eternal wrath against people, which by definition means that his wrath against them has not been propitiated [appeased]
1Th 2:16  Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.
2Th 1:6-9  Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

    1. To make a public display of demons
Col 2:13-15  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
  1. To rule over everyone
Rom 14:9  For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
  1. To redeem creation
Isa 35:1-4  The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God. Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Rom 8:20-23  For the creature [in Greek, same word as “creation,” verse 22] was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature [in Greek, same word as “creation,” verse 22] itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
  1. To lay the foundation for a genuine gospel call
Joh 6:39-40  And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 7:37-38  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
  1. To provide temporal mercies for the non-elect
Mat 5:45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 
1Ti 4:10  For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Irresistible Grace
  1. Faith and Repentance (as well as the new heart which is able to produce them) are themselves gifts of God
    1. A new heart
Deu 30:6  And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
Eze 11:19  And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
Eze 36:26-27  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.  
  1. Faith
Joh 3:27  John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Phi 1:29  For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Eph 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
John 6:63-65 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64But there are some of you who do not believe." (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) 65And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father."
  1. Repentance
Act 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Act 11:18  When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
2Ti 2:25-26 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
1Co 4:7  For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
  1. The Father writes his own word upon (places the fear of himself in, etc.) his people's hearts
Jer 31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Luk 10:21  In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Joh 6:45  It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
2Co 4:6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
  1. The beginning of salvation is the sovereign impartation of spiritual life into a heart which had been dead, thereby causing it to exercise faith

Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD....Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Joh 1:11-13  He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Joh 3:3-8  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Joh 5:21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
Eph 2:1-5  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Jam 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Jo 2:29  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
  1. True offers of grace in the outward gospel call may be resisted by men who do not have this new heart
Act 17:32-33  And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. So Paul departed from among them.
  1. In fact, true offers of grace will always be resisted by such men
Joh 10:24-26 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
Joh 12:37-40  But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
  1. But there are some whom God causes to come to him
Psa 65:4  Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
Psa 110:3  Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
Joh 6:37-40  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Rom 9:15  For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
 
Perseverance of the Saints
  1. What God begins, he finishes
Psa 138:8  The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
Ecc 3:14  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
Isa 46:4  And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Jer 32:40  And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
Rom 11:29  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Phi 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
2Ti 4:18  And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
  1. Of all whom he has called and brought to Christ, none will be lost

Rom 8:28-31  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Heb 7:25  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Heb 10:14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

  1. God's preservation of the saints is not irrespective of their continuance in the faith
1Co 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:19-21  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Eph 5:5  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Heb 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Heb 10:26-27 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 12:14  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Rev 21:7-8  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Rev 22:14-15  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
  1. However, it is God who sanctifies us and causes us to persevere
Joh 15:16  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
1Co 1:30-31  But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
1Co 6:11  And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
1Co 12:3  Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
1Co 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Gal 3:1-6 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 1Th 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Heb 13:20-21  Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. 1Jo 2:29  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
Jud 1:24-25  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
